Birds Singing Happy Birthday with Spellbinders

Hello there friends!  I've got another card today using a beautiful die from Spellbinders.

The die is the Shapeabilities Birds Singing border die by Sharyn Sowell.  It is a beautiful botanical element that is PERFECT for a longer card,  a mixed media project, junk journal or even a scrapbook page.  

For this card, I first cut out the birds singing on to a smooth white cardstock.  I colored the different elements using my Copic markers.  The colors I used are as follows:
Birds: B000, B01, B04
Roses: R21, R22
Leaves: YG03, YG06
Flourishes: Y01, Y08

I used foam mounting tape to mount the entire piece to a textured cardstock panel and then added my greeting.

A very simple and quick card, made possible by this gorgeous die from Spellbinders.

Card creator floral cards with Spellbinders

Hi there friends!  Today I have a few cards to show you using a very versatile die from Spellbinders!

This die is the Card Creator Flower Garden from Sharyn Sowell.  It is a set of 4 dies that includes a beautiful floral frame and outline die, plus a tag and leaf accent. This die set is great because you can pretty much create a quick card in a few minutes.

My first card, I used the die on Bristol Smooth card stock.  I used some light messy watercoloring to color the flowers and leaves.

I cut out the tag accent and leaves.  I stamped a greeting on the tag, and I colored the leaf accents with watercolor.  I added a few water drop embellishments and then used foam tape to mount the entire piece on a top folding card panel.  Easy, and SOOOOO pretty!

The second card was made almost the same way, but I cut out two panels from the flower garden die, and then I cut out the roses from one panel and colored them with some light watercolor.  I mounted those, and the leaf accents to the panel to add some more interest and dimension.

The Love Tree with MISTI and JOY CLAIR STAMPS

Hi there friends!  I’m here today using Misti and Joy Clair to show you something I made using alcohol inks.  Alcohol ink has really been around awhile.  I’ve used it for years, and while it was not used much in recent years, it is back and very trendy!

 

Let’s talk about how I made this card.  The first thing is I used glossy cardstock (not YUPO paper).  Alcohol ink on glossy cardstock does not move as much, and since I wanted a bit more control over where the ink went, I used glossy cardstock that I had in my stash. (for many, many years I might add!)

I stamped the beautiful Love Tree outline from Joy Clairstamps in versamark using my MISTI stamping tool.  You don’t have to have a MISTI, but it really helps as you do not want to smear the ink on this glossy card.  I heat embossed the tree in gold embossing powder.

I put some alcohol ink on a plate (just a few drops) and then I used an older fine paint brush (nothing fancy or special, just an older, cheap one) to “paint” my tree with Teakwood alcohol ink.  I needed to add some dimension so, I dropped a little blending solution on the plate, and added it a little at a time.  I used watermelon ink to fill in the heart sections on the tree.

For the background, I used a totally different technique.  I dropped a few colors of blue (Sky, Turquoise, Stream) onto a felt pad and then dabbed it on with an ink blending tool.  I didn’t like how it looked at first, so then I added some blending solution to my felt pad, and moved the ink around until I got the look I wanted.  I also created a line of grass along the bottom, using Limeade alcohol ink.

I used my heat gun to dry the ink.  I am very careful to use the heat sparingly, as this stuff is flammable, and I also don’t want to warp my paper.

I stamped the greeting in versamark (again using the MISTI for precision) and heat embossed it in gold.

The Love tree set from Joy Clair includes these bunches of hearts that make adorable leaves.  So, I stamped those with red pigment ink, and clear embossed those, and the birds were stamped in black pigment ink and embossed in black.

Rainbow Hello card using Joy Clair and MISTI

Hi again!  I'm back again with another fun card from Joy Clair stamps using my fabulous MISTI tool.

 

To make this card, I used my MISTI to stamp the floral from Joy Clair Hearts and Smiles set with Versamark ink, and then I white heat embossed the image.  I loosely water colored the card panel using some Distress inks and a water brush.  I stamped the Hello Sunshine from Joy Clair Hello Sentiments set in Versafine black, and then added a few jewels (in rainbow order of course) to my card.

Cute birthday card using Spellbinders dies

Hi there Crafty friends!  I'm here today to show you something a little different from me....a fun card made with dies from Spellbinders.

I started by making a background from some distress oxide inks.  I die cut the adorable Die Delights Robots and the Nuts and Bolts from Spellbinders out of cardstock.  I colored them all quickly with Copic markers and added details using my gel pens.  I adhered them all to my colored background.  I embossed the greeting  with white embossing powder.

That's it for this card.  It really came together quite quickly.

Altenew Layered Floral dies

Hi there friends!  I have a trio of cards today that were so fun to make!  I recently got these Rose Flurries layered dies from Altenew and could not wait to try them out. 

 

The first thing I did was cut out a bunch of them and color them all with Copics.  Any markers will work for this.  I was not careful about coloring, I did not shade anything, I just colored each layer a different color from that color family.  I assembled all of them and was left with this pile of pretty flowers! 

I used the Altenew Wood pallet background to make the simple rustic backdrop that would show off these flowers.    On the blue and pink card, I just used the palette as one piece, but on the red one, I cut off each board, and used the line and nail head stamps to give it a more realistic look.  I mounted each "Plank" separately on another piece of cardstock.

I arranged them on each card, glued them down, and added a pretty sentiment to each of them.  I just love how they turned out.

Sending Hugs with Joy Clair and MISTI

Hello crafty friends!  Today I'm sharing a quick card featuring two stamp sets from Joy Clair stamps.

To make this card I used my MISTI stamping tool to ink up the Hugs and Smiles set from Joy Clair stamps with Memento Ink.  I colored the flowers with my Copic markers.  I left my stamp in the MISTI and re-stamped my image over my coloring so I had a beautiful dark image.  I fussy cut around the edge of this whimsical floral design.

For the background, I used the Wood Background from Joy Clair stamps.  I inked this with a very soft grey ink and then I re stamped, using my MISTI, adding touches of a very light pink ink here and there.  I love the look of the distressed wood background with multiple colors.

I trimmed down the background and then mounted on coordinating card stock to compliment my coloring.  I added simple white twine and the greeting.  Finally, I embellished the card using Tonic Nuvo clear drops and a white gel pen.

Hummingbirds and Flowers Pretty Pink Posh

Hi there crafty peeps!  I don't know about you guys, but I'm done with winter.  Yes, I live in a warmer climate, but we've had our share of cold weather this year.  I'm over it.  LOL.  After the holidays, I'm always ready to go back to making cards that have my favorite things - ahem, flowers and birds!  So when Pretty Pink Posh released these ADORABLE hummingbirds, I rushed to my favorite online store to pick them up.  They do not disappoint.  SO FUN to color!

This card was pretty easy to make - I colored the flowers and the birds using copics and cut them out.  I have pictures below to show all the items that went into this card.  Even if you don't have them, I'm sure you can find something to whip up this easy design!

Winter Woodland Wonders Christmas card

Hi there friends and welcome!  Today I'm sharing a Christmas card using some adorable forest critters! This is a similar card to the one I created for Butterfly Reflections Ink.  To see that post, click here.

This card was super simple, all I did was stamp all the critters on smooth white card stock and color the with Copic markers.  I added a few little accents with a white gel pen.  I cut them out and set them aside.  For the background, I used a stencil to make some hills and snow drifts and then I blended some distress oxide ink along the top, added water and then dried it.  I flicked some white paint down to add snow.  I mounted all my critter scene pieces on the background, and called it done!  See?  EASY!

Spooky Halloween card + Glitter fail

Hi there friends!  Today I have a scene shaker card I made to send to a friend for Halloween.  I don't send a lot of Halloween cards even though I enjoy the holiday.  We decorate our house and love all the fun and creative costumes!

 So...this card did not even come close to how I had planned it.  Yes, I wanted to make a shaker with some cute critters in it, but my execution was very trial and error.

I started off stamping and coloring these cute bunnies from WPlus9, and the little costumes for them.  That part went fined.  I used my Lawn Fawn scene die to cut that tree frame.  I then blended several colors of Distress Oxide together and added some water to give that cool mottled effect that you see here.  After I did that, I realized that I needed a ground line for my critters to stand on, so I added more Distress Oxide ink and then drew a thin line along the bottom so they did not look like they were floating. 

I "thought" it would be fun to use black glitter in this Shaker card. So, I used my antistatic powder bag and went around the edges and dumped some glitter in.  Just a little at first, but then I thought I needed more.  Ummmm - it went everywhere.  The static on that little sheet of acetate was stronger than I thought it should be - glitter went everywhere, and it stuck.  I tried dumping it out and it was all over me, the dog, my craft table, my stamps, my pants, the sides of the trash can, the card, on my Copics - every.where. At this point, I considered just tossing the entire thing in the trash and starting over, because we all know that GLITTER IS FOREVER!  As you can see from this close up, it is still in there, little black specs of glitter, that even with a wet stamp shammy, still remained in my card.  I added sequins instead, and that was a lot better, even though I had not thought about the sequins sticking to the critters. 

Note to self - leave the glitter to the professionals!

Happy World Cardmaking Day!

Today is World Cardmaking Day!  I am so happy to have a day to celebrate something that I love doing...making cards!

This mood board is from Butterfly Reflections Ink's blog for the month of October.  I thought it would be fun to use this for my inspiration today!  Be sure to check out their post for a chance to win a GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR THE STORE!

This card came together really quickly using just one stamp set and some coordinating inks.
I used the GORGEOUS Altenew Build-A-Flower Rose Set.   This rose is 6 layers and it was really pretty easy to line up.  I used all Altenew Inks, and I just double stamped some of the darker layers to get the depth.  Easy-peasy!

Pretty Pumpkins

These cards make me so happy!  You know why?  Because I love Pumpkins, Teal, Fall and Succulents!

When I saw this new stamp from Impression Obsession, I knew I had to have it, and I knew that the first time I stamped it and colored it, it would not be Orange...it would be Teal!

The teal pumpkin was stamped with Versafine Onyx black ink and colored with Zig Kuretake Clean Color Brush Markers.  

The Orange version is a bit different.  I stamped it with a very light ink and tried my had at the no line watercoloring technique.  I'm not too confident with that yet, but I'll keep working at it.

So, which one do you like?  Orange or Teal?

Sketchy Florals - 2 ways

Good morning crafty peeps!  Today I have 2 cards that share completely different ways to use Copic on this big beautiful stamp from Altenew, called Sketchy Floral.

I know it may be difficult to tell but this first card (above) was done on glossy paper.  Glossy paper is a unique medium, as it really gives a different look to your card.  It's almost like it is a photograph.  In fact, you can stamp and color on Glossy photo paper.  I had a package of glossy photo paper that I got from a thrift store.  I don't remember the brand, but it was a buck, so I thought....let's try this!  I first heat embossed that floral on to the glossy paper using Altenew Antique Gold Embossing powder.  Then I colored using the Copics.  The colors are darker on glossy paper than they would be on other Copic friendly paper because the color does not really soak in the same way.  You also cannot blend them the same way either.  You can build up color with one shade though, which I think is awesome, especially if you don't own a ton of markers.  You can see that I did several different Copic techniques, dots, flicks to try and add dimension.  The card came out really cool, and in person, its beautiful and shiny!  I added a die cut from Concord and 9th and a few Pretty Pink Posh sequins to finish off my card.

This card was stamped in a light ink from Memento and colored using the no line coloring technique.  I used my Copics for this also.  I am not an expert on no line coloring-it takes a lot of practice.  I was so intimidated by this but one day I just sat down and tried it.  There are a lot of You Tube videos out there by many talented crafters that show different ways to do this.  I think this particular stamp is a good one to try it on because it is very forgiving and a bit abstract and that means anything goes! I finished off this card with some Nuvo drops that add a really fun, controllable dimension!  If you have not tried them, you really should!  I have a (ahem) collection of a lot of colors. :-)

Mermaids and Toucans! -Summer Card Catch up - Part 2

This is the summer in which I started to attempt to make cute little character cards.  I will admit to owning just about every floral stamp made and very few of the cute character stamp sets that companies like Lawn Fawn, and My Favorite Things make.  I tend to think I am not as good at making those sorts of things look good, so I stayed away...until recently.  I picked up the Polynesian Paradise set from MFT and colored all the little pieces, cut them out, and then sat there and was like, now what?  I have to make a scene.  (And, I am good at making a scene, but not on a card!)  So, these were my first attempts at using sets like this.  And while they are not scenes, they are colorful, and interesting.  (I'm in love with coloring that Toucan by the way)

 (sorry for the wonky lighting on this one, I think it was storming or something when I did this, because I tried all sorts of ways to get this to photograph better)

Then, I jumped on the Mermaid bandwagon!  Oh my gosh, everyone came out with the cutest mermaid sets this summer!  I love Mermaids!  (Splash was one of my favorite movies ever!)

This Mermaid set is called Mermazing, from My Favorite things...its just so awesome! I could not wait to make something with it!

This beautiful Mermaid set is from Stampendous.  I just love her too.  I am not going to admit how many Mermaid sets I own, but let's just say, these are not the only ones! ;)

When the moon blocks out the sun

I will admit that I am kind of a geek when it comes to stuff like what is happening today.  I have always been fascinated by space, and nature.   So, today the United States will have a total Solar Eclipse.  I do not live in the path where the Sun will look this photo above, however,

we will have about a 66% coverage of the sun, so that is still cool in my opinion.  And unless you have been living under a rock, I don't need to tell you to not stare at the sun today (or any day HA!) 

Summer Card catch up -Part 1

Yikes!  Where has the summer gone? Sorry I've been gone, but I've had so much going on this Summer.  Mostly, moving my parents near us.  It's been a long process, but now they are much closer and this is a great thing!  My Mom is also a card maker, and I've been helping her get her new craft room set up.  (I love organizing!)  I made quite a few cards this summer - just didn't get around to blogging them here. So, here goes!

 This first card was made for my parents, and it went with a Housewarming present.  The stamp set is from Altenew, and I colored with Copics and made a very simple CAS card.    I have REALLY gotten in to my Copics this past year.  I am completely self taught, but I do learn quite a bit from watching YouTube.  I would love to take a class some time.

 This card was another favorite!  The stamp set was part of my birthday gift from my sister.  (She is also a stamper, how awesome is that!) This large floral stamp is from Penny Black, and I'd never seen it before, but oh. my.  How beautiful it is to color!  Again, with the Copics, I know, I know.

 This last card was another one of my happy accident cards.  I had a completely different outcome envisioned, but this is what I ended up with.  The stamp is from Altenew - and I colored this with my Zig Clean Color real brush pens.  I really need to use them more.  Last year I used them on everything, and I forgot how awesome they are!

Creating with Alcohol Inks

Lately I've been trying to use supplies that I bought and then....ahem...neglected.  When the Adirondack alcohol inks first came out, I had to have them! They were so cool.  I bought a bunch of them, and then, I made a few projects and then put them away.   They were collecting dust in my collection, so I thought...lets see what we can do with these.

This card is the finished card that I made, but as you'll see below, this is not what I was making to begin with.





Alcohol inks are like a box of chocolates...you know, you never know what you're going to get.  I started off with an A2 size piece of glossy card stock.  I started dropping the inks all over, I added blending solution, I used a straw to move it around, I used my heat gun.  And I ended up with a big blobby hot mess.  Go home Alcohol Inks, you're drunk!  I almost trashed this piece, but I set it aside and started to work on my next piece, with different colors, and a different idea.





This is where I started taking pictures.  I had no intention of turning this creative mess into a blog post, so I apologize.

I stamped the floral heart image with a very light dye ink on my glossy cardstock.  I used my MISTI stamping tool.  (IMPORTANT:  I left the stamp on the tool, because I'm going to stamp again later!) Dye ink dries super fast on glossy paper.



Then, I dropped alcohol inks on the image in a very unintentional way.  Meaning that I did not try to get the colors in each petal,  but rather just drop a little here and there and let the ink do its thing.  I did try to keep the ink within the image, but as you can see that yellow on the top left...it was going rogue.  I had to let it go.

 After the inks had dried ( I used a heat gun to speed up the process), I put the card panel back in to my MISTI, and stamped over the top with the heart image from Concord and 9th in versamark ink and embossed with Gold embossing powder. Since I had left the stamp on the Misti, the embossing ended up in the right place.  So easy!

I decided to leave this one pretty simple, I stamped a sentiment, added a few sequins and mounted to a red notecard.
I think these are pretty neat, they resemble a stained glass piece.

Colored embossing powder

I've been stamping for a long time, something like 20 ish years or maybe longer. I started as a stamper, got in to scrapbooking, and here I am, making cards again.  One of the first things that hooked me on stamping was heat embossing.  It was like magic to me when that heat gun melted that powder.  Even today when someone who is not a card maker sees a heat embossed piece, they are always commenting on it.  Heat embossing gives a something special element to every card, I think.

When I received this stamp from The Ton's latest release, I knew I had to heat emboss it.  Many of the Ton's floral designs have these solid images that just scream emboss me!  My normal "go-to" colors are gold, black, white, silver and clear.  But for this card, I wanted something different. So I dug through my stash and found turquoise embossing powder.  I'll admit that I was not sure if I'd like this, but was very pleased with the results.

I colored the flower using Ken Oliver Color bursts.  I like these because they provide a very intense color, and I wanted a big punch of color on my card.

Here are the step by step instructions and supplies I used to make this card.

1.  Stamp flower image multiple times using Misti tool and Versamark Ink on watercolor paper.
2.  Heat emboss image with colored embossing powder.
3. Color image with watercolor brush and color bursts.
4.  Fussy cut finished floral image.
5. Die cut scalloped floral panel, mount on A2 sized card panel.
6. Stamp greeting and heat emboss with white embossing powder.
7. Cut out greeting and mount on card panel.
8. Embellish with some pretty sequins.

Coloring with Zig Clean Color Real Brush

One of the easiest ways to get vibrant, eye popping color on your images, is to use Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  They go on like butter, and they blend just beautifully.  Up until recently, I had mostly used them with water, so they were more like a transparent, soft watercolor application. 
They are wonderful for that as well, but I recently gave them a go, alone. 
And the results are...WOW!

I inked up this gorgeous stamp from Mama Elephant, and went with a tropical palette of colors from my Zig collection.  Isn't it pretty?  It's so vibrant!  I stamped the image with Versafine Onyx ink on Strathmore Bristol smooth paper.  I have found this is the best paper for this application.

Here is another one that I did...different color palette, but still as vibrant and lovely.
